OnePlus 5's Face Unlock feature in latest OxygenOS betas get OnePlus 3, 3T

NEW DELHI: OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei few days ago, while rolling out the OnePlus 5T's key feature Face Unlock to OnePlus 5, hinted that it may come to OnePlus 3 and 3T as well. Now, the company has finally rolled out the feature to OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 as a part of OxygenOS beta update.
OnePlus 3, 3T Gets Oxygen OS
While the OnePlus 3T gets Open Beta 21, OnePlus 3 gets Open Beta 30. Both come with same features. The Face Unlock feature is software dominant and doesn't depend on the hardware specifications as heavily as what we've seen in the Apple iPhone X. The company, while detailing the feature in OnePlus 5T, said that it uses over 100 identifiers along with the front-camera to identify the user. It is said to even work in different light conditions and even when you are wearing glasses.

In addition to Face Unlock, the OS update brings the Launcher version to 2.3. Users can see new categories when using the search icon in the drawer. Keeping similar apps in a folder will make OnePlus automatically name it. Besides this, the clock icon has been revamped and users will see Blue notification dots to notify them that the newly installed app will now be removed automatically after 15 days.

In India, OnePlus 3T and 3 users also get support for Airtel VoLTE and easy functionality to move information from old to a new OnePlus device.OnePlus has even confirmed that Airtel VoLTE may not work in certain areas and some third party camera apps may not work well with this update.

Earlier this month OnePlus 5 received Android 8.0 Oreo. The company soon after cancelled the roll out as it found a bug in the OS version. Later, the firm resumed the OS version roll out with OxygenOS 5.0.1. This version also brought Face Unlock feature to all the OnePlus 5 handsets.
