Android users, you can no longer book Uber in Google Maps

NEW DELHI: Last year, Google introduced a feature in its navigation app -- Google Maps -- using which the users were able to book a ride with Uber with ease. The feature enabled users to book an Uber directly from Google Maps without opening the Uber app. Apart from booking a ride the feature also allowed users to check when the driver is en route to the pickup location, contact the driver and monitor trip status from Google Maps itself.

However, for some reason Google has removed this functionality from Google Maps app. The company has not yet revealed the reason behind this decision.

In an official post the company said, “In the Google Maps app, you can compare ride services with other ways of getting to your destination, like public transit or walking. You can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps. But you can still look up the route in the Maps app and then request the ride from the Uber app. This feature shows info made available by the ride-service providers. If you have a question or complaint about one of these providers, contact them directly.”

The Request a ride feature was introduced on both iOS and Android at the time of the launch. However, the company removed the feature from iOS back in August last year. The feature is still live in India, but we are sure when the company will remove it.

Recently, Google Maps got a feature of scrolling bar which was spotted being placed just under the search bar that is seen at the top. The floating bar shows various categories such as hospital, petrol pumps, pharmacies, restaurants, supermarket, cafes and more. It has been reported that the floating bar feature is still in the testing phase and is visible on the beta version of the app. Apart from the scrolling bar one can also see the layers of button on the top left corner.
